Eating Water? Fruity Herby Water?

Hey Yall!

I’ve written on several occasions about water. I won’t rehash it now, but I will say drinking the recommended daily amount of water is something that shouldn’t be ignored.  I strive for 70 ounces a day. I fail. I consistently fail at this. I’ll do amazing in spurts of 3-4 days. Then mess up for several weeks. I want to do better yall!!!!!!! I’ve succumbed to social media peer pressure: I got some mason jars.

Sexy delicious drank.

I made Rosemary Watermelon Water and LOOOOOOVED IT!  It is so cool and refreshing. I can easily drink 3-4 glasses and that’s like 30+ oz easily!  I’ve seen so many tumblr posts of different drinks, I am going to try cucumber & lime water I hear great great stuff about that combo. If you have any recipes or drink ideas.. Leave it here! I really want some more.

More importantly I want to discuss eating water? Whaaa??? Yup. So check it.  The majority of fruits and veggies have a high water content.  Grains, pastas, cheese etc have low. So if you eat these low water content having food you aren’t hydrating your body. Nutritionally the higher level H2O foods are great for you. I actually learned about this through Chef Ahki’s facebook page and since then, I try to eat a salad/make a drink that includes these high water content foods. Remember the water you’re getting from these foods is natural and the best kind you can get, even better than spring water! It has the prefect pH levels, minerals etc.

Water is not about Quantity. Water is about Quality.-Chef Ahki

I’m working on this. It’s new knowledge and I’m just sharing. I think this is awesome & enlightening.

Healthy Hydration Tips

Water/Coconut Water/Crystal Light

Let’s be honest, it has been hella hot since the week before summer (I’m in Philly) and these days the heat index is not dropping. Yep, you’ll get a rainy day or 2, then the temps are back up to blazing degrees. I am, by NO means, complaining about the weather, it is summer & I expected this.

With the increase in temperature, I sweat way more. I sweat cleaning, cooking, walking to the car, driving, etc it seems like everything elicits a bodily response — sweat && since I don’t particularly enjoy the AC I’m OKAY with sweating and drinking lots of water to stay cool. The problem arises when I no longer want just ice cold water; when I need something else that will quench my thirst and at the same time it’s healthy.

There seems to be a plethora of posts about this subject matter, how to get enough fluids into your body, ways to spice up your drinks yadda yadda, so I wanna jump on in.

  • I don’t do everything I’m about to say such as drinking coconut water simply because my taste buds haven’t adjusted to the taste yet. With that being said, I’ve tried it several times..I HAVE TRIED IT SEVERAL TIMES I didn’t just  say no && I will be trying it later on. There are health benefits of drinking this after you exercise It’s like the super duper healthy cousin of sports drinks that isn’t quite popular, but everybody sees it’s potential.
  • Adding fruit to your water. I’ll add some blueberries, small chunks of pineapple, lemon etc, it adds some flavor ad changes the dynamics of the drink. I do this…I like it.
  • Adding veggies?? I have yet to do this. I’ve heard adding a slice of cucumber is both cool and refreshing. 0.O  I don’t know how adding a pepper or carrot or a leaf of lettuce would be. You try it && please let me know.
  • A couple sips of Gatorade or some other sports drink, ONLY after I’ve worked out and I know I have to replenish my electrolyte level. I don’t drink this normally because the sugar content is tooooo high.
  • I was in Whole Foods and saw a representative from VEGA they seem to have great healthy options for pre/post exercise drinks & snacks. I was very pleased by their product.
  • I think I’ll go as far as to say…try some sparkling or flavored water. My coworkers who are drinking almost solely water have added Crystal Light to their water and they love it. I’ve never done it and maybe I’ll try it. It always so much speculation when it comes to using artificial sweeteners. Carbonated Water doesn’t seem to be my thing either, but drinking it isn’t bad for you. It is simply water infused with carbon dioxide.

Adding a little pop to your water regularly scheduled boring water seems to be the best way to keep yourself healthily hydrated this summer.

I still want to find out what you all are drinking this summer so let me know and I’ll try them out!!

Going Green by Drinking Blue.

I have always hated tap water. At restaurants I want to get so diva when I request water: the taste of it. Knowing where it’s been, what it has been through-just every thing about tap water can go *as beyonce made famous* to the left, to the left.

Now in school, one of my good friends had the huge Brita jug and she used that to fulfill her h2o requirements…me on the other hand got the 16.9oz  bottles from Sam’s Club.  She constantly pushed me to use Brita but  my response was something along the lines of *sucks teeth- ohellnaw I don’t DO purified tap. Brita  Dasani. Fuji. whatever. I’ll take my deer park thank you!*   I knew that my carbon foot print was hella high just for the simple fact that I was using a ton of bottle per month/ per week/ per DAY! but it really didn’t matter.

In late March, I received the Brita 20 oz water bottle. Now in Early March I was on my whole…I wanna drink 70 oz of water/day kick.  I’m not gonna lie, I was failing, but I was trying! I think I was getting close to 50 oz a day. But at my job I didn’t like filling up my bottle with the water fountain.  With the Brita bottle I feel waaay better about drinking. I can fill it up anywhere, it’s super convenient .

It has a built in filter (obviously) and super environmentally friendly, one bottle replaces I think  300. You have to replace the filter every 2 months or 20 gallons.

So in conclusion…I REALLY REALLY love this bottle. Great for exercising…good to carry and now there should be no reason not to get your recommended amount of water in.

I’m saving the world yall!!!

Let’s Talk Water!

Yup! It’s all about that good ole handy, no taste, I-don’t-want-it, but-it’s so beneficial to me drink.

Water!

I’m a huge on again off again drinker. And I know I should always be ON, but yall..sometimes it’s rough out here to get those ounces all in. It seems like the busier I am the more conscious I am that I need to be sipping consistently.

SO let’s talk H2O. This drink is HELLA IMPORTANT FOR EVERYTHING!  *fin-drops mic & walks away*

Nah,  but seriously: 60-70% of your body weight is water and it’s needed for vital tasks that are important to your LIFE! do I really need to go on? yea okay I will such has nourishing cells, lubricating joints, cushions an unborn baby awww. Plus assisting in many more bodily functions.

There recommendations out about the amount of water you should drink daily are plenty && quite confusions & contradicting if you ask me.

This is what I suggest: the recommended daily of fluids should be 64oz. that’s the 8 by 8 rule. But I say drink 60% of your body..I mean think about-your body is 60% water so why not? As a minimum I’m saying!!  For me about 110lbs 60% is 66 oz of water. Currently I try to do 70 oz a day. 60-62oz of water. and 8-10oz of tea in the evening.  This varies greatly…sometimes it’s 50 oz && other days it’s 80 oz. I’m trying to become consistent..in the last 3 weeks I’ve been doing MUUUUCH better thanks to my Brita Water Bottle. I know they say putting orange or cucumbers in water is sooo refreshing and blah blah blah but  I haven’t gotten to that point yet.  One step at a time!

So let’s talk water! How much do you drink daily? what’s your aqua goal? What else?

Talk with yall soon!
